It turns out I am now kinda leading this crew of crazy folks. Our next meeting will be today at 4:00pm (Sunday, March 3, 2005). Same address as before which is right below. We tend to order pizza, so it would be great if you bring some snacks or some money to help pay for food. Get ahold of me at email@example.com.

Has anyone here gotten Monodevelop to compile on the mac? I am finding it freakishly hard.

Anyone interested in seeing pictures from the dinner? I'm not going to post them if nobody wants to see them. It takes a lot of effort, you know! :)
The meeting was great. It was great to see so many Free Software folks in the same room. It was super cool to meet miguel_rss
finally. Don't tell anybody, but he's one of my personal heros. Up there with Larry Wall, Richard Stallman (yes, I know. But I still respect him for what he has accomplished), Bill Gates (see previous disclaimer), Ghandi, Jesus and The Buddha :)
Ha. I'm going to go do something else now.
And why don't any of you other folks post to this journal? I feel all alone up here.

Word from Miguel about his visit
Hey all. I got an email from Miguel about his schedule. It looks like we're going to be shooting from the hip. He can't plan anything until the 24th, when he arrives. I hope you all feel flexible!

. Our next meeting will be on Sunday, January 3rd (ahem, 23rd). Chris, do you want to hold it at my place or your office? Come to think of it, does Sunday work for all of you?

Good lord. I should update this.
No meeting this month, since it was the day after Christmas.chrishergert
implemented a MySQL
add-in for MonoDevelop.

MD Debugger is ready for testing!
18:38 < cj> heya toshok!
18:38 < toshok> so yeah, i think DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH is needed
18:38 <@kangaroo> unless it’s in . or DYLD_LIB_PATH
18:38 < toshok> hola
18:38 <@kangaroo> which _ _hate_ about darwin
18:38 < cj> toshok: anything we can do to help with the MD debugger?
18:38 <@kangaroo> which I rather
18:38 < cj> we = seattle mono users’ group
18:39 <@kangaroo> cj: use it and file bugs
18:39 < cj> kangaroo: I wasn’t aware it was working. Do we need to apply a patch?
18:39 <@kangaroo> it only works on x86
18:39 < cj> fair enough. I’ve got an x86 in the basement and X on my mac :)
18:40 < toshok> you’ll need HEAD mcs/mono, and the editline package listed in the README, but otherwise
yeah, just build and file bugs :)
18:40 < cj> toshok: good news. I’ll send the info to the list.
The first meeting was a success. chrishergert
discussed his work with MonoDevelop and MonoQuery. The group contacted jamesh_rss
, developer of among other things, Dia
about building support for automatic UML generation from .NET assemblies into MonoDevelop.
Chris is working on creating a UML document to represent the MD codebase.
To support that project, we contacted miguel_rss
about his work on getting the /doc argument to mcs finished. We both offered to test the patch and work out any bugs we find. He suggested that we read up on atsushi_rss
's work on the project.
We found out that the visual studio project importer needs love. If any of you know where the source for it is, please post that information as a reply to this entry. I'd be happy to tweak it a bit.
During the next month, we plan to:
1) get the /doc patch tested and do what we can to get it merged into the svn repository
2) build a UML diagram of the MD source
a) create a doc to uml diagram generator
3) Work on the design of the SVN# add-in

Chris Hergert has offered as the meeting place his office on the corner of Maynard and Dearborn in downtown seattle. Thoughts?
first seattle mono users' group meeting
This is a reminder that the first seattle mono users group meeting is happening at my place, 426 25th ave S, Seattle, WA 98144 on Saturday, November 20th at 4:00 pm.
The venu is a little sub-par, but I'm working on that. I don't think that we can support more than five members at this time, so if you intend on coming, and I don't know about it, please RSVP either by email or phone. You can reach my cell at 206 226 5809.
I expect this to be a working meeting. I want to focus on becoming familiar with the MonoDevelop codebase so that we can start contributing to it by the next meeting. Unless someone has a conflict with it, let's say meetings are monthly, on the third Saturday of the month.
If anyone in the Seattle area is familiar with the MD codebase, I strongly request you be there to point us in the right direction.
I need to head back to work, so I'll leave it at that.

Miguel, Todd and the team finished migrating the Mono codebase to Subversion (svn). There is a svn primer here
. If you want to keep up to date on the most recent developments in the Mono project, you'll need to be able to check out code from the subversion repository.
After you produce your first few patches, I suggest applying for r/w access to the svn repository. Documentation on how to do so is here
. Until you have r/w access, send patches to me
for review. If they look good, I'll commit.
